Multilevel Modelling using Stata 5 December 2008 Cass Business School, 106 Bunhill Row, London, EC1Y 8TZ, UK. Contents Course Description Timberlake Consultants Ltd, the UK distributor of Stata, invite you to attend a one-day course in Central London reviewing the multilevel modelling methodology and using Stata during the practical sessions. Stata is the well known statistics and econometrics software package developed by StataCorp (USA). The Course - The aim of this course is to introduce the use of Stata for dealing with multilevel modelling. The emphasis is practical so that participants should understand both the principles of analyses and how to carry them out using Stata. Participants should, by the end of the course, be able to use Stata for carrying out their own analyses. Stata 10 will be used througout the course. The overall structure and content of the course is as described below. Each session will begin with an introductory talk and demonstration, following which participants will work through examples under supervision. Who should attend - The course is aimed at researchers who require to learn about multilevel modelling and how to use Stata to analyse those models. Participants should have some knowledge of Stata. Why use multilevel modelling? - In many branches of the sciences (e.g social, medical and biological sciences), researchers are analysing data with hierarchical structures. For instance, in medical studies patients are attached to wards within hospitals, in social sciences, populations are people within households, within areas. The use of multilevel modelling allows the researchers to focus their attention on the levels of the hierarch in the population and this, in turn, allows the researcher to understand where and how effects are occurring. The Principal Lecturers - The course has been developed and is taught by: Dr. James Carpenter- James is a senior lecturer at LSHTM. He joined the School in 1998 from the Department of Statistics, Oxford University, where he studied for his doctorate. He organises the MSc courses in generalised linear modelling and advanced statistical modelling and has worked extensively with multilevel models. Cost - The cost of the course is:
A further 10% discount is given to those that also attended the "An Introduction to Stata for Medical Statistics" course on the 16 -19 September 2008.
