Stata Software
Timberlake Consultants Ltd, the UK distributor of Stata , invite you to attend a four-day course in Central London reviewing statistical methods used in Medical Research and using Stata to analyse the course datasets. Stata is the well known statistics and econometrics software package developed by StataCorp (USA).
The Course - The aim of this course is to introduce the use of Stata for dealing with the analysis of data that typically arise in medical research. The emphasis is practical so that participants should understand both the principles of analyses and how to carry them out using Stata .
Participants should, by the end of the course, be able to use Stata for carrying out their own analyses for the most common types of problem encountered in medical statistics. Examples from published research will be used wherever possible, and participants are encouraged to bring their own data if they wish. Stata 10 will be used throughout the course.
The overall structure and content of the course is as described below. Each session will begin with an introductory talk and demonstration, following which participants will work through examples under supervision.
Who should attend - The course is aimed at either medical researchers who have had minimal exposure to statistical methods or at statisticians who wish to learn how to use Stata .
The Principal Lecturers - The course has been developed and is taught by two principal lecturers:
Stephen Evans - Stephen is a Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology, working in the Medical Statistics Unit at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine . His first degree was in physics and chemistry and included a year in the US doing physics and philosophy. Having worked in computing for a while, he did a MSc in Medical Statistics at LSHTM and worked in statistics and computing at The London Hospital and Medical College for 25 years. Stephen also worked for the UK Medicines Control Agency and Quintiles (mainly on the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry)
Tim Collier - Tim is a Lecturer in Medical Statistics, working in the Medical Statistics Unit at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He graduated in Mathematics and Environmental Management in 2000 and obtained an MSc in Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2001.
