STATGRAPHICS Plus Quality & Design Edition

STATGRAPHICS Plus Quality and Design offers the Standard Edition plus facilities for Statistical Quality Control and Design of Experiments.

Statistical Quality Control

The Quality Control Module for STATGRAPHICS provides about 20 analyses to use for Statistical Quality Control. Below there are some examples.

Pareto Analysis

The Pareto Analysis allows you to produce a Pareto Chart, which is a histogram for categorical data. Manufactures often use this tool, together with attributes charts, to identify and rank order the most important causes of a problem within a process. Pareto Charts are also used to track the progress of changes to a process.

Shewhart Control Charts

Shewhart control charts helps to determine statistical control for samples taken at reasonable intervals, they also detect assignable causes and shifts in an attempt to maintain the process "in control" status, and eliminate the nonrandom variability of the process. The Quality Control Module for STATGRAPHICS Plus offers four set of variables control charts: X-bar and R Charts, X-bar and S (or S2) Charts, and individual Charts. It's possible pre-specify the control limits, or let STATGRAPHICS Plus calculates them automatically. It's also possible, while an Initial Study is running, exclude subgroups without altering the data. The new version includes a new Tolerance Chart, for those situations when you need to go beyond statistical aggregates and look at the individual data points that lie behind the picture.
The Quality Control Module for STATGRAPHICS Plus offers four attributes control charts: p Charts, np Charts, c Charts and u Charts. The type of chart you use depends on the way you count the defects. And like for the Variables Control Charts, there's a full range of text- and graphic-based options.

Time-Weighted Control Charts

The time-weighted charts are based on subgroup statistics or individual observations. The time-weighted charts are similar to control charts, however they differ because they incorporate the past history of the process, are more sensitive to small and gradual changes in the process and are based on the moving statistics.

Multivariate Control Chart

The Multivariate Control Chart Analysis lets construct control charts for samples that have more than one variable in which you can correlate different measurements. This analysis is based on Hotelling,s T-squared statistic and assumes that the data come from a multivariate normal distribution.

Gage R&R

The Gage R&R helps you assess the quality of the measurement system. Analysing the repeatability and reproducibility components of gage variation is a breeze in the QC module. A capable measurement system with little variability is helpful in accurately measuring process control and capability.

Design of Experiments

Experimental Design is a scientific approach that allows an experimenter to better understand a process and how the inputs affect the outputs. The primary reason for using any designed experiment is to use data that can provide answers to well thought out questions.

Screening Designs

The STATGRAPHICS Plus Screening Designs procedure allow you to test all possible combinations of a large number of environmental factors. Or perform a fractional factorial design or a Plackett-Burman design on only part of the full design - reducing experimental time and costs. A wide range of tables and charts are included to help with the interpretation of the results. From regression coefficients and confidence intervals to interaction plots and the new contour and surface plots.

Response Surface Designs

Once you've identified the most important factors using a screening design, it's simple to fit a more detailed second-order model using our Response Surface Design procedure. The system provides Two Response panes in the analysis. It's possible to select one of four types: Surface, Contour, Square or Cube. The plots help you to determine the influence of factors on the response variable and to locate optimal regions.

Mixture Designs

The Mixture Designs procedure allows you to easily design and create an experiment to handle situations where components are mixed to form a chemical blend. You can use the simplex-lattice design, if your data values are distributed equally over a response surface region or the simplex-centroid design, if the data values are distributed around the center of the response surface region. All of the designs include linear, quadratic, special cubic, or cubic model estimations, and graphics to visualize the results.

Added in Version 4

Multilevel Factorials, Inner/Outer Arrays, Single and Multi-factor Categorical and Variance Components design classes have been added in Version 4. Plus, you will find new procedures for optimising your designs.

New for STATGRAPHICS Plus Version 5

Version 5 adds the following: new Gage Linearity and Accuracy Analysis, the Multi-Vari Charts, Life Data Regression for Reliability Analysis and Accelerated Life-Testing, long-term and short-term capability assessment estimates, plus new options for data handling in all of the control charts. There is also an enhanced General Linear Models Analysis computing expected mean squares and variance component estimates for random and mixed models. Add to this, automatic Cochrane-Orcutt and Box-Cox procedures in Multiple Regression. Levene's, Friedman's, Dixon's and Grubb's tests, Durbin-Watson P-values and bootstrap estimates in One-Variable Analysis. Increased data limits, more flexibility in naming columns, automated result saving, support for international/multi-byte character sets, enhanced 3D charts, etc.

STATGRAPHICS Plus Professional Edition

STATGRAPHICS Plus Professional gives you the functionality found in the Quality and Design configuration plus analyses for time-series, multivariate methods, and advanced regression.

Time-Series Analysis

STATGRAPHICS Plus Contains four analyses for time-series data: Descriptive Methods, Smoothing, Seasonal, Decomposition, and Forecasting. Descriptive Methods help you to visualise the shape, trend, and patterns of the data and to describe the history of the time period. The Smoothing techniques allow you to estimate a function or prepare the data for other statistical procedures. Seasonal Decomposition helps you separate the time-series components: trend, cycle, and seasonal factors. Forecasting assists you in examining the three components and comparing the models so you can predict future values of the series. Follow there are some examples.

Smooth Out the Kinks in Your Data

To dampen the variation in the time-series data, is possible to use the STATGRAPHICS Plus' Smoothing procedure. They include several methods like simple moving averages, Spencer's and Henderson's moving average methods, exponentially weighted moving averages, and five different resistant nonlinear smoothers.
Smooth your data once, or "smooth the smoothed" data a second time. Then plot the data to reveal trends, cycles, data errors, or outliers. Optionally, you can save the results in your STATGRAPHICS Plus data file for later use.

Seasonal Adjustments are a Snap with STATGRAPHICS Plus

The Seasonal Decomposition analysis helps to break your data into its important components: trend, seasonality, cycle, and irregular to predict each component separately and make a good forecast.
STATGRAPHICS Plus handles both additive and multiplicative decomposition methods, and includes a range of graphs to display the resulting seasonally adjusted data, including subseries plots, trend-cycle plots, and seasonal index plots.

New Tools Make Forecasting Easier Than Ever

STATGRAPHICS Plus has got a wide range of forecasting models, including random walk, S-curve, moving average, five types of exponential smoothing, and Box-Jenkins ARIMA. Is possible to choose the best model to describe the data comparing up to five models simultaneously. You can define model parameters yourself, or ask the system to do the optimising for you. We'll even withhold some of your data from the analysis to verify the results. And the results are all at your fingertips, inside our built-in catalog of charts and graphs.

Multivariate Statistical Analysis

The Multivariate Methods Module in STATGRAPHICS Plus' consists of five analyses: Cluster Analysis, Factor Analysis, Principal Components Analysis, Discriminant Analysis and Canonical Correlation Analysis. It's important to understand the strengths and shortcomings of each of the analyses to select and use the appropriate analysis and interpret the results properly.

Cluster Analysis

This analysis allows you to identify hierarchical clusters of observations in a dataset by using one or six methods or algorithms: Nearest Neighbour, Furthest Neighbour, Centroid, Median, Group Average, or Ward's. K-means provides one nonhierarchical clustering technique.

Factor Analysis

This analysis performs classical and principal components factoring with rotations. You can analyse raw standardised data, a correlation matrix, or a covariance matrix, three different rotation methods are available as an aid to interpretation. You can also use factor analysis to rotate coefficients you produce using other analyses.

Principal Components Analysis

This analysis is a technique for determining the relationships among several quantitative variables. You use it to summarise data and to detect linear relationships. It is a helpful tool when you need to reduce the number of variables in regression or clustering analyses.

Discriminant Analysis

STATGRAPHICS Plus' Discriminant analysis helps you predict which of several groups your data belong to. Using the easy-to-follow dialog boxes, you can classify data into two or more groups, determine which independent variables account for most of the difference, or predict which group a new case falls into.
Whether you have two groups or multiple groups, discriminant analysis will help you test your hypothesis. And when you're done, simply save your results in a StatFolio. A single mouse click stores an entire analysis - variable names, graphic settings, and analysis options - for later use. You'll be amazed at how much time you'll save.

Canonical Correlation Analysis

It is possible to study the relationship between sets of variables with STATGRAPHICS Plus' Canonical Correlation procedure. Just identify the sets of variables to analyse and let the system do the rest. STATGRAPHICS Plus calculates the eigenvalue, canonical correlation, Wilks' lambda, chi-square, degrees of freedom, and p-value. All with lightning-fast speed. And to visualise the strength of the canonical correlation, simply plot the canonical variables to see what data alone won't tell you.

Advanced Regression Analysis

The Advanced Regression Analysis is an addition to the STATGRAPHICS Plus base system.

Quickly Detect Differences Between Groups

If you need to see if there is a significant difference in a relationship among two or more groups or to compare simple regression models by a categorical variable, STATGRAPHICS Plus automatically fits a separate line for each level of the categorical variable and then tests whether or not the intercepts or slopes differ.
Also STATGRAPHICS Plus gives you the ability to plot as many regression lines as you want on one graph. With options that let you assume equal intercepts to compare slopes or assume equal slopes to compare intercepts, it's never been easier to see the differences.

Easily Fit Nonlinear Relationships

STATGRAPHICS Plus has the ability to fit essentially any type of nonlinear model with up to twelve parameters. With 3-D graphics, you can visually explore your data on the screen and quickly detect deficiencies in your model. STATGRAPHICS Plus gives you colourful, high-resolution graphics that can be easily edited and adapted to suit your needs. So whether you're setting up our new 3-D regression surface plot or a residual plot, customised, presentation-quality graphs are just a mouse click away.

Model Binary Data with Our New Logistic Regression

STATGRAPHICS Plus gives you the ability to build an expert regression model. The logistic regression lets you examine the effects of categorical or continuous variables on binary or probability data. And, with instant access to graphics in every procedure of STATGRAPHICS Plus, you can easily plot your data to visualise how well your model can be relied on for predicting success or failure. With seven plots in logistic regression alone, including prediction capability plots and prediction histograms, it's never been easier to make predictions with confidence.

Trying to Make Sense of Messy Data?

Then general linear models (GLM) lets you develop and analyse customised regression and design problems. Mix discreet and continuous predictors and their interactions in one model.

Calibration - A Must for Indirect Measurement

STATGRAPHICS Plus' Calibration Analysis lets you compare lab results to a known standard giving you a model that lets you predict X with confidence limits, given Y.

System Requirements

STATGRAPHICS Plus for Windows runs on Pentium-based systems with a graphics adapter and compatible monochrome or colour monitor. 32 MB of RAM and Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows 95, or Windows NT 3.5 or later are required.
