Unicode

Stata 14 now supports the most widely used way to store text across different applications (including the web) by allowing Stata’s strings to read Unicode UTF-8 format. This new addition is particularly helpful for users who work with languages other than English and for programmers who write Stata commands for general distribution.

Unicode characters are now allows in variable names, labels, data and more. The move to support Unicode allows further flexibility in sharing files across computers and programs. Stata 14 introduces unicode analyze and unicode translate commands that allow a smooth transition from Stata 13.
