Course Overview

Timberlake Portugal and Cemapre (University of Lisbon) are jointly organising this five-day Summer School, presenting a set of statistical and econometric tools essential for the health researcher, with a direct application in Stata software.

Many of the topics covered are of interest of real-world data analyses. The course includes a revision of data management skills in Stata, followed by a presentation of several statistical models, for both cross-sectional and longitudinal data.



Course Outline

Day 1

Introduction to Statistics and Data Management (Mónica Inês)

  • Stata basics;
  • Data manipulation;
  • Descriptive statistics and simple tables;
  • Graphs and data visualization.

Day 2

Statistical Models in Health Research (Mónica Inês & Filipa Duarte-Ramos)

  • Logistic Regression;
  • Time-to-event data;
  • Graphs and Data Visualization.

Day 3

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (João Costa & Mónica Inês)

  • Introduction to Systematic Reviews;
  • Meta-Analysis;
  • Results Presentation.

Day 4

Survival Analysis (Aurelio Tobías)

  • Kaplan-Meier survival function;
  • Poisson Regression & Cox Regression;
  • Time-dependent variables;
  • Results & Interpretation.

Day 5

Repeated Measures Analysis (Aurelio Tobías)

  • Features of Longitudinal Data;
  • Exploring Longitudinal Data;
  • Fixed & Random effects models;
  • Mixed models & Covariance structures.
