The package R is a freely available software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It has the facilities to perform the most advanced statistical modelling methods, and is equally well suited to simple statistics and graphical displays. This course encourages an interactive approach to statistical analysis based on the use of R's publication-quality graphics, as well as its extensive data exploration and statistical modelling capabilities.

Who Should Attend?

Statisticians and others who analyse data will benefit from this course. The course is not intended as a first course in statistics. You should be familiar with basic statistical concepts up to regression and analysis of variance, and preferably you will have already some experience with a statistics package.

How You Will Benefit

You will learn to use R for basic statistical analysis and graphics. You will begin to see why it's so popular. All optional practical exercises are included with the course materials and can be followed after the course.

Course Agenda

What Do We Cover?

  • Introductory concepts of R, data structures, objects, classes, functions
  • Exploratory stage - graphical methods and descriptive statistics
  • Linear models, diagnostics, model selection
  • An outline of the use of R for fitting and displaying generalised linear models (GLMs)
  • Further graphics with R
  • Optional practicals on mixed models, survival analysis, generalized additive models (GAMs) or improving graphical capabilities.

Note: For practical work, participants must bring their own laptop with a fully licensed version of the software.

    • 100% fee returned for cancellations made over 28-calendar days prior to start of the course.
    • 50% fee returned for cancellations made 14-calendar days prior to the start of the course.
    • No fee returned for cancellations made less than 14-calendar days prior to the start of the course.
